Wimps are a bunch of Seattle working stiffs/musicians (LOL) who happen to have a punk band or is it the other way around? Whichever it may be, I hope they’re as good at their day jobs as they are as being a punk band and that their respective bosses are not DICKS and will give them time off to tour because “Settling Down”, off Wimps’ upcoming Kill Rock Stars (!) cassette (!!) release Super Me, is the best thing I’ve heard in a long time.
There’s a lot of reason I think this rules. For one there’s the fact that this super hooky punk track about settling down, of all things, is played super fast and more than a little sloppily, with no fucks given because Wimps know how good they sound. There’s also the cool lyrical trick of the band singing “Settling down is…unsettling,” a kind of a nod and a diss to normie life represented by the pause between the words. Then there’s the fact that everyone seems to intentionally not be playing in time for the last 30 seconds of, which could be meta e.g. they’re doing it on purpose just to fuck with us (highly possible considering Wimps is made up of members of Butts, Meth Teeth, and the Intelligence) or they could have just fucked it up on accident, decided they liked how it sounded when they played it back and left it that way. Any way you slice it, “Settling Down” is punk as fuck and it totally rules and Wimps rule and the 15 year old in me just died because I got to write up a track premiere for a Kill Rock Stars band. The perks of being an old flower, am I right?
BTW, good news! Their bosses are not dicks and are letting Wimps go on a California tour starting August 11th. See dates below.
