Psychic Jiu-Jitsu hails from San Francisco, home of the new garage revival and, paradoxically, extremely high rent. “Dreamachine”, the standout single off of their debut LP opens with some atonal guitar reminiscent of Sonic Youth and quickly gets to the riff that will dominate the song for the next few minutes, swirling through the verse and making the chorus and bridge seem like abbreviated afterthoughts.

Considering that they also have a song entitled “Don’t Bore Us (Get To The Chorus)”, Psychic Jiu-Jitsu is nothing if not self aware of their tendency to get locked in a drone, only to be pulled away by the necessity for structure they seem to halfheartedly need. My advice: Just jam out, dudes.
