the soaks

Getting tired of all the talking heads on TV lately? Well, don’t give up entirely just yet! San Diego band The Soaks’ new video for TV Life provides the talking heads without the bullshit, or rather a more satirical approach to all the bullshit. With catchy synth lines and lyrics, this self-described silly punk rock group is definitely worth checking out live. Soaks guitarist/vocalist Jojo was kind enough to answer some questions via e-mail about the video, their band and the greatest show to ever grace the airwaves. The Soaks are touring the West Coast tour this April, scroll down for dates.

The Soaks – TV Life

How long have you been playing music? Who’s in the band? Are you all from San Diego?

We started The Soaks in May 2015. Priscilla (Keyboard), Jakob (Bass) and I met through some mutual friends. I grew up all over as my father was in the navy, Priscilla is from Tecate, Mexico, and Jakob is a San Diego native.

How was the idea for the video developed?

The TV Life music video concept was kind of just playing off the general theme of the song. A TV/Internet/whatever obsessed society just getting dumber and more numb as the years go by. We wanted it to almost come off as some sort of fucked up TV commercial or something. San Diego musician/wiz kid, Richard Dotson of The Frights directed it.

What are some of your favorite TV series past and present?

Hands down, Married with Children! Just the best show that has ever graced the small screen.

Do you prefer straight TV to Netflix and streaming providers?

Netflix/streaming has absolutely become a staple in our lives. It’s just so convenient on the road. We usually just watch The Office over and over though.

You have an upcoming West Coast tour, what cities are you most excited about playing in?

We are about to embark on a West Coast tour this Spring. Love being up in the Pacific Northwest! Living in Southern California you don’t experience much weather. A little rain/snow is always kind of fun. We almost always have to pull over for a band snowball fight if the weather permits!

Favorite type of pie?

Growing up in South Carolina for a while I fell in love with sweet potato pie! People in California just don’t understand…it’s the best!! Although I’ll eat any pie available.
